New Vodacom Bulls captain Reinhardt Ludwig says the team is still hurting from their 28-7 loss to Ulster in Belfast last weekend.
But he adds that they’re determined to set things right in Galway against Connacht on Friday.
“We’re hurting from last week, but there’s a big desire to bounce back,” Ludwig said. “Playing Connacht will be a massive test of character for us, but for us it’s focusing on what we can control. We’re expecting a really tough game.”

In only his second match back after almost five months on the sidelines following a lower back injury, Ludwig takes over the captaincy from Springbok hooker Johan Grobbelaar, who drops down to the bench in favour of fellow Bok Jan-Hendrick Wessels. It’s one of a massive 11 changes to the Pretoria-based team.
Ludwig admits that while being given the captaincy brings extra personal pressure, he rests in the fact that he’s surrounded by leaders.
“I’m very hard on myself so there is a lot of personal pressure. I don’t want to disappoint the team or the coach, but I’m not alone. I’ve got leaders all around me with the likes of Dawid Kriel, Jan Serfontein and Willie le Roux all there to help.”

The 23-year-old former Junior Bok says the Bulls are dead-set on rectifying last week’s defensive errors, which ultimately cost them the match against Ulster.
“Our defence isn’t where it needs to be. We slipped three tries shortly after half time, but we know why. We had soft moments conceding those tries, but we’ll sort it out.”
