Lynn Forbes Says #AKAFridays Is A Powerful Form Of Justice For AKA. In a deeply emotional reflection that resonated across South Africa’s hip-hop community, Lynn Forbes, mother of the late Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, shared a powerful vision of what justice looks like for her son.

For her, it is not only about court proceedings or legal outcomes, but also about the ongoing celebration of his life, music, and cultural impact.

The conversation unfolded during an honest exchange with rapper and media personality L-Tido, who asked Lynn Forbes how the Megacy, AKA’s loyal fanbase, could continue to support her as she carries the weight of preserving her son’s legacy. This comes as the legal case surrounding AKA’s tragic killing in February 2023 continues to move toward trial in 2026.

Despite her grief, Forbes spoke with calm conviction about what truly brings her comfort amid the ongoing journey. “At the moment, as I’ve said, we are doing a lot of work to just get things in place. But I think for me to be honest with you, what is important to me is that people… You know, there’s this thing called AKAFridays.

“I promise you, if everybody could just partake in AKAFridays, that would probably be a big deal for me. We’ve got #AKAFridays, and on a Friday, I just want to see the Megacy celebrating Kiernan. You see, for me, that’s justice for my son. To see that people keep his memory alive, to see that people keep sharing his music, to see that people listen to his music.”

Her words carried the weight of both grief and grace, redefining justice in a way that extends beyond the courtroom. In her view, justice is also found in remembrance, in replayed songs, and in a culture that refuses to let an artist’s influence fade.

The movement known as #AKAFridays was launched by SA Hip Hop Mag in late 2023 as a weekly digital tribute to AKA. Every Friday, fans across the country and beyond flood social platforms with his music, lyrics, performances, and personal memories.

From chart-topping anthems like Mass Country to deeper cuts that shaped his career, the initiative has grown into a living archive of celebration. What began as a fan-led tribute has evolved into a cultural ritual that keeps his presence active in the rhythm of South African music culture.

For Lynn Forbes, this weekly act of remembrance is more than symbolic. It is participation in legacy-building, a way of ensuring that her son’s voice continues to echo far beyond his lifetime.

As the legal process continues in the background, Forbes’ message shifts attention toward something more immediate and communal. While formal justice moves through court systems, cultural justice, she suggests, can happen every single week.

Each Friday becomes an opportunity for the Megacy to reconnect with AKA’s artistry, whether through streaming his music, sharing videos, or posting memories under the hashtag #AKAFridays. In doing so, fans keep his influence alive in real time, turning remembrance into action.
