MarazA Unpacks The Meaning Of His Latest Song Title “Spilli.” South African hip-hop veteran MarazA recently joined Shabz on 5 Hip Hop Nights with DJ Speedsta, where he peeled back the layers of his latest single, “Spilli.” The track serves as the first offering from his forthcoming project, UNO, and carries far more weight than a catchy hook.

During the conversation, Shabz noted that “Spilli” is not exactly new to longtime listeners. It is an adlib that has echoed through MarazA’s catalogue for years. Rather than brushing it off, the rapper leaned in, offering a thoughtful breakdown rooted in language, history, and personal milestones.
“Spilli, for those who don’t know, it’s experience,” he explained. He unpacked the linguistic twist behind the word, pointing out that the Zulu language does not use the letter “R.” Words like “experience” morph phonetically, evolving into something uniquely his. “Expelliance, expillion. So spillion is just experience,” he said, turning what once sounded like a playful tag into a declaration of depth.
For MarazA, “Spilli” marks a full-circle moment. He reflected on the 10-year anniversary of “Gwan,” his 2016 breakout hit that became a street anthem and elevated his name across the country. That milestone also mirrored another decade-long marker. Ten years before “Gwan,” he had released “Bengingazi Ukuthi Ngenzeni” with Dezza around 2006 while still in matric, a record that introduced him to the game.
The numbers do not stop there. He referenced the 20-year age gap between his father and his granddaughter, and the symbolic weight of stepping into 2026 ready to drop UNO. For MarazA, these details are not random trivia. They are markers of alignment.
“Nothing is a coincidence,” he said with conviction. “With all that, I felt like it’s time to take that claim and be like yoh, I’m HIM in flesh. Two decades in, spillion one way.”
In that light, “Spilli” transforms into more than a single. It becomes a manifesto. It is a statement carved from two decades of persistence, reinvention, and cultural contribution within South African hip-hop. From recording as a high school student to navigating industry highs and setbacks, MarazA now stands firm in his veteran status.
As UNO approaches and “Spilli” continues to build momentum, the Durban-born, Johannesburg-shaped MC is making one thing clear. Longevity is not accidental. It is earned through experience, and he has plenty of it to pour out.
