Thomas Tuchel has caused a stir on social media with his announcement of England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Thomas Tuchel has announced his first England squad of the September 2025 fixture campaign, as the Three Lions prepare for their 2026 FIFA World Cup European qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.
The head coach has selected a 24-man group as England aim to maintain their perfect start to qualifying.
England will host Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday, 6 September 2025, before travelling to Belgrade to face Serbia on Tuesday, 9 September, 2025.
Among the notable inclusions are first senior call-ups for Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence and Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, both of whom have impressed at club level after previously featuring for the MU21s as well as the return of Barcelona forward, Marcus Rashford to the squad.
There is also a return for John Stones, who missed much of last season due to injury, while Adam Wharton earned a recall following his strong recent performances.
The squad will gather at St. George’s Park after this weekend’s domestic fixtures to begin preparations.
Tuchel’s England currently top their qualifying group after victories over Albania, Latvia, and Andorra in his opening three matches.
Notable absentees like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben White and Harry Maguire have raised eyebrows on the thought process of the head coach going into the fixture.
With further qualifiers scheduled for October and November, the Three Lions are firmly on course to secure their place at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
