“Now Imagine If We Worked Together,” Slikour Reflects On First Six Months Of SOL Distro. South African hip-hop pioneer and entrepreneur Siya “Slikour” Metane is taking stock of the first six months of his latest venture, SOL Distro (@soldistro), and sharing insights on its early impact.

In a recent post, Metane, the founder of Slikour OnLife, reflected on nearly three decades of shaping culture and how he is now measuring that influence in concrete ways through his self-funded music platform.
“SOL Distro launched on 13th August 2025. Self-funded. No venture capital. No institutional support. God Willed,” Metane shared. “Next numbers report in six months. Brick by brick.”
The Johannesburg-based platform is designed to be a game-changer for independent African musicians. Unlike traditional distribution services that take cuts from royalties, SOL Distro allows artists to keep 100% of their earnings while providing global access to major streaming platforms. The service also includes creative tools to support career growth, such as music video production, PR assistance, brand partnerships, and data analytics.
Since its official launch in mid-August 2025, which included events and announcements emphasising its artist-first approach, SOL Distro has gained attention as a comprehensive ecosystem for African creators. Metane has consistently highlighted the goal of building a “safe and empowering space” for artists. The platform moves beyond simple distribution, aiming to foster sustainable, independent careers.
Metane’s update underscores the bootstrapped nature of the project, which relies on determination and community momentum rather than external investors. He hinted at future possibilities by concluding his post with: “Now imagine if we worked together
Soon you’ll understand…”
As the South African music industry continues to shift toward greater independence and ownership, SOL Distro represents a bold, homegrown alternative to exploitative practices. The next impact report, expected around September 2026, will reveal the progress behind Metane’s “brick by brick” strategy.
