It has been confirmed that Paul Pogba’s brother and five other men have been sentenced to prison following their attempt at blackmailing the French footballer.
Six individuals, including Mathias Pogba, the brother of French international footballer Paul Pogba, were handed prison sentences ranging from three to eight years today, Thursday, December 19, 2024, after being convicted of attempting to extort the player.
Mathias Pogba, however, will serve his one-year sentence under electronic monitoring instead of imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of 20,000 euros on Mathias for his involvement in the attempted extortion of 13 million euros (approximately $13.5 million) from Paul Pogba in 2022.
Additionally, he was found guilty of exerting pressure on the footballer, his family, and his business associates to secure the payment.
The case has sent shockwaves through French football, as the alleged offenders included three of Pogba’s childhood friends and his own brother.
The remaining five defendants were convicted on charges of extortion, kidnapping, unlawful detention, and being part of a criminal association.
They received prison terms of up to eight years and fines ranging between 20,000 and 40,000 euros.
