Faf de Klerk has joined the Springboks in New Zealand, boosting the scrumhalf contingent to four.
The Boks announced on Sunday that hooker Bongi Mbonambi had remained behind in South Africa to attend to family matters while De Klerk would provide additional scrumhalf cover.

De Klerk’s omission from the original squad had surprised Bok legend Fourie du Preez, who said his experience would have been invaluable on the two-Test tour.
“I personally would’ve loved for Faf to be in the mix,” the 76-Test veteran said. “He’s started two World Cup finals and won them, along with Handre [Pollard] at flyhalf, they’ve formed a great combination.”
