Reason Details Why His Music Lives On Different Spotify Profiles After Fans Complain. South African rapper Reason, born Sizwe Moeketsi, has opened up about fan frustration over his scattered presence on streaming platforms such as Spotify, where his music appears under several profiles: Reason, ReasonHD, and Sizwe Alakine.

Responding on X (formerly Twitter) to a fan suggestion to separate his amapiano tracks as “Sizwe” and his rap output under “ReasonHD/Reason,” Reason told the story like a “fairy tale” to illustrate why his catalogue became so fragmented.
“Once upon a time, there was a rapper from South Africa called Reason,” he began. He described how the shift from physical CDs and genre-based store sections to streaming algorithms tied to names created conflicts. His prominence initially overshadowed other artists using the name “Reason,” including American acts and bands. When a U.S.-based rapper named Reason emerged under a major label, streams and features often got linked to the wrong artist, confusing fans and collaborators alike.
The problem intensified when a portion of his catalogue was removed for nearly three years after his former label, Motif, lost its licensing deal with Sony. To restore access to missing tracks and establish a clear South African identity, he re-uploaded much of his material under Reason, a temporary solution that helped local fans find his music.
Contractual restrictions prevented a full migration of all works. Three albums—The Reasoning, Audio 3D, and Azania—along with numerous featured appearances co-owned with other artists, remain under the original “Reason” profile and cannot be moved or deleted.
“‘Reason’ was becoming difficult to manage and administrate,” Reason said, explaining why he fully embraced the Sizwe Alakine identity. Adopted around 2021–2022 as he began exploring amapiano alongside his hip-hop roots, the new name represents a fresh artistic chapter and a connection to his South African heritage.
He concluded with optimism: “All profiles will eventually merge once the contracts allow.”
Emerging in the mid-2000s, Reason built a reputation for sharp lyricism and high-profile collaborations with artists like Kwesta and DJ Maphorisa. His transition into amapiano under Sizwe Alakine has widened his fan base, but the fragmented streaming profiles reveal challenges many independent and mid-tier artists face in the digital era. Name collisions, licensing hurdles, and rigid platform policies make catalogue management complex and often invisible to listeners.
Fans have responded with understanding and appreciation for his transparency. While rap enthusiasts may need to search across multiple profiles for his early hits, his amapiano work is centralised under Sizwe Alakine, at least until the long-promised merger becomes reality.
