Former Wallabies star Rocky Elsom’s five-year sentence for alleged financial misconduct as president of Narbonne Rugby Club could be reduced – or overturned altogether.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, a French prosecutor has requested the sentence be cut to three years, with a final ruling expected on 14 March.
Elsom, capped 75 times for Australia, was convicted in absentia last October for allegedly misusing corporate funds during his tenure at Narbonne between 2015 and 2016.

His lawyer Yann le Bras is understood to be fighting the ruling, pointing to discrepancies in the case and questioning the handling of financial records.
Le Bras has reportedly called for the arrest warrant against Elsom to be annulled, citing procedural flaws, arguing the investigation focused solely on expenses while ignoring income and contractual obligations.
Elsom, who fears being detained before the hearing if he returns to France, has claimed fresh evidence could clear his name.
