Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt may test yet another option at flyhalf for Saturday’s clash against Italy, amid questions over Tane Edmed’s ability as a Test pivot.
Carter Gordon is set to make his return to international rugby, with the Sydney Morning Herald revealing the playmaker is expected to start in the No 10 jersey in Udine.
The 24-year-old hasn’t featured for Australia since the 2023 World Cup, having missed the opening two Tests of the November series against Japan and England due to a quad niggle.

Gordon switched codes after last year’s Super Rugby Pacific season, joining the NRL’s Gold Coast Titans. His stint in rugby league was disrupted by a spinal fluid leak, though he eventually made his debut in the Titans’ final-round clash with the Wests Tigers.
Reports last month confirmed Gordon’s return to rugby union, with the eight-Test Wallaby signing a long-term deal with Rugby Australia and the Queensland Reds through to the end of 2028.

Edmed has started the last three Tests at flyhalf, but the change is expected following the 25-7 defeat to England.
