Springbok loose forward Kwagga Smith featured from the bench in the Shizuoka Blue Revs’ 60-45 defeat to the Kobe Steelers in Hyogo.
Maurice Marks ran out on the wing for the Saitama Wild Knights in their 13-6 win against the Black Rams Tokyo at Komazawa Olympic Park.
Franco Mostert captained the Honda Heat in a 44-38 win against the Toshiba Brave Lupus in Tochigi. Lock Janko Swanepoel and centre Dawid Kellerman, who scored 16 points, started alongside Mostert for the Heat.
Yokohama Canon Eagles captain Jesse Kriel started in midfield in their 20-14 win against the Toyota Verblitz in Aichi. Jeandre Labuschagne reinforced the Eagles from flank, while lock Lourens Erasmus started for Verblitz.
Seven South Africans featured for the Kubota Spears in a convincing 48-14 win against the Urayasu D-Rocks in Tokyo – Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx, Merwe Olivier, David Bulbring, Tyler Paul and Ruan Botha featured for the pack, while Gerhard van den Heever and Rikus Pretorius started in the backs. Jasper Wiese packed down at No 8 for the D-Rocks, scoring two tries.
Former Stormers flyhalf Manie Libbok started for the Kinetsu Liners in a 16-14 win against the Koto Blue Sharks, kicking six points from the tee. Ex-Lions and Cheetahs fullback Coenraad van Wyk ran out for the Blue Sharks.
