The Six Nations trophy has been retired after suffering irreparable damage.
The vehicle transporting the trophy in Ireland caught fire, leaving it beyond restoration to what organisers described as “full presentation standard”.
As a result, the current trophy will be decommissioned, with its materials set to be reused in the creation of a brand-new version.
The replacement will be crafted from scratch by luxury silversmith Thomas Lyte – the same company that produced the existing trophy in 2015.
The painstaking process is expected to take around 365 hours to complete, with the new trophy scheduled to be unveiled ahead of the 2027 Six Nations.

Despite the setback, this season’s champions will not miss out on lifting silverware.
Tournament organisers always keep an identical replica on standby, primarily for final-round scenarios when more than one team remains in title contention.
That replica is now set to be used for the 2026 championship celebrations.
