Sjava Reveals The Thinking Behind “iNkanyezi NeZinkanyezi”‘s Year-Long Album Rollout. South African Afro-soul powerhouse Sjava has officially closed out one of the most innovative album campaigns in recent memory with the release of iNkanyezi NeZinkanyezi—the studio culmination of his “Inkanyezi” trilogy—on January 30, 2026.

Now, fresh off the drop, the KwaZulu-Natal native is opening up about the bold, fan-centred strategy that made the project feel like a shared journey rather than a standard release.
In a heartfelt post shared recently, Sjava reflected on how he flipped the script: instead of dropping singles or teasers in advance, he spent the entirety of 2025 turning live performances and EPs into the real rollout.
“What makes this project special is the way we rolled it out,” he wrote. “I wanted to try a different approach, one that allowed me to engage my fans more intimately. I thought, ‘Let me teach them the songs before I release them.’ The whole of 2025 became the album rollout for iNkanyezi NeZinkanyezi on the live EPs. Fans learned the songs, heard their voices on the live EPs, and fell in love with the music before the album dropped. That’s how I challenge myself and my team to be more creative.”
The approach paid off spectacularly. Tracks that debuted in raw, electrifying live settings during tours and shows, captured on the Inkanyezi (early 2025) and Inkanyezi 2.0 (September 2025) EPs, arrived on the full album already familiar and beloved. Concert crowds sang along to unreleased material, their energy immortalised in live recordings, creating an organic bond that carried straight into the polished studio versions.
Sjava stressed the collaborative heart of the work, tying it directly to the title, which translates to “a star among the stars.” “This project is bigger than just me—hence the name,” he explained. “Everyone who worked on it contributed to its unique and special creativity.”
The 11-track iNkanyezi NeZinkanyezi delivers a rich tapestry of sounds: maskandi-rooted anthems, Afro-soul introspection, gospel-tinged devotion, trap-infused grooves, and even experimental Shangaan electro vibes. Highlights include “Sanibonani” featuring Buhlebendalo and Kelvin Momo, “Sleepover” with Nkosazana Daughter, “Mdumise” alongside Msaki and Zadok, “Madibuseng” with Lowfeye and LaCabra, plus contributions from Jesse Clegg, Umafakhiza Mfeka, J JOHN the big baby, Gusba Banana, Ronaldo, and others—bridging generations and genres seamlessly.
Marking a full decade since his breakout, the album stands as both a personal milestone and a love letter to the fans who lived with these songs for a year before they officially landed.
