“Stay Low is not doing anything wrong,” DJ Speedsta On Zoocci Coke Dope And Stay Low Contract Saga. The South African hip-hop industry has once again found itself in the middle of a heated contract controversy, and this time, DJ Speedsta is stepping in to cool the temperature.
As tensions rise between Zoocci Coke Dope and Stay Low Records over his ongoing dispute, Speedsta has publicly challenged claims that the label is exploiting the acclaimed producer.
The conversation intensified after businessman and politician Kenny Kunene made explosive remarks during an episode of Podcast and Chill with MacG. Kunene accused Stay Low, which is affiliated with the Steyn Entertainment Group founded by the late billionaire Douw Steyn, of crippling Zoocci’s career through restrictive contract terms.
According to Kunene, Zoocci has been unable to release new music or collaborate freely due to obligations tied to the deal. He further alleged that mounting legal fees have left the producer financially strained, even claiming Zoocci lost his car while trying to fight the matter. Framing the issue as part of a broader pattern of powerful institutions exploiting young Black talent, Kunene pledged to help free the artist from what he described as a predatory agreement.
However, Speedsta has pushed back against that narrative. In measured and candid remarks during the Up To Speed Podcast, he cautioned against embracing one side of the story without examining the full picture.
“This is a difficult one for me, but I want to give the right information,” Speedsta stated, acknowledging that while tensions exist between Zoocci, who operates under his PiFFAUDIO banner, and Stay Low, the situation is more complex than it appears.
He clarified that Zoocci entered into the agreement with Stay Low through PiFFAUDIO and emphasised that any disputes stem from that signed contract. Speedsta suggested that Kunene’s public commentary lacked crucial context.
“Uncle Kenny didn’t come with the real information and the real facts,” he said, implying that key details may have been overlooked in the retelling of events.
Rather than portraying Stay Low as antagonists, Speedsta described the label’s stance as a matter of enforcing contractual commitments.
“Stay Low is not mad at Zoocci Coke Dope or any PiFFAUDIO artist,” he explained. “All Stay Low is saying is that this is your contract you signed, and we need you to carry it through.”
Although Speedsta admitted he does not have insight into the precise terms of the agreement, including how many projects are required, he maintained that the label appears to be acting within its legal rights.
This is not the first time Zoocci has spoken publicly about contract frustrations. In 2023, he released Current State of Mind V on YouTube, where he reflected on past deals that left him feeling exploited and hinted at irregularities such as forged signatures and unfair clauses. Those sentiments have resurfaced amid the current fallout, adding emotional weight to the dispute.
