“By the way, this album took 5 years, bro, because I’m chasing features,” Stogie T told host L-Tido, laying bare the often unseen reality of crafting a collaborative hip-hop project at the highest level. The statement captures the marathon effort behind ANOMY, a 12-track body of work that wrestles with identity, disillusionment, and survival in a fractured world. The album boasts an impressive lineup that includes FLVME, Maglera Doe Boy, A-Reece, Ricky Tyler, Maggz, and Nasty C, each contribution secured through persistence rather than convenience.

No collaboration, however, came with a longer pursuit than the title track. Stogie T revealed he had been trying to work with legendary singer and activist Thandiswa Mazwai for over a decade. “I’ve been chasing Thandiswa Mazwai for 13 years,” he shared, a confession that drew equal parts admiration and disbelief. When the moment finally arrived, Mazwai delivered a stirring performance on “Anomy,” joining forces with Maglera Doe Boy to create one of the album’s most powerful and emotionally charged moments.

The rapper also reflected on the waiting game that defined much of the album’s creation. “Every single hook you hear, I have to wait,” he explained, pointing to the realities of busy schedules, creative alignment, and the discipline of refusing to compromise. For Stogie T, the delays were not obstacles but safeguards, ensuring the album remained authentic and intentional rather than rushed for relevance.

That careful approach is evident throughout ANOMY, which bridges eras and continents. Drawing from his roots with Tumi and the Volume, Stogie T expands his sonic palette with global collaborators such as Senegalese kora virtuoso Ablaye Cissoko and Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara. The result is a richly layered project that feels both grounded in South African hip-hop tradition and boldly outward-looking.
