Thibaut Courtois becomes the owner of a football club

Real Madrid first choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has joined the exclusive list of players who have become owners of football clubs around the world.

Thibaut Courtois became a minority shareholder of the French club Le Mans FC, which currently plays in Ligue 2. The Belgian’s investment came through his own investment company, NxtPlay Capital which is a major move in the club’s ownership structure.

The Brazilian investment fund OutField is becoming the majority shareholder of Le Mans, joining other high-profile investors like tennis star Novak Djokovic and former F1 drivers Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen. The club is currently fifth in Ligue 2 and is looking to strengthen its position and long-term development.

Part of the plans announced with this new ownership include investments in infrastructure, such as buying the training centre and reopening the youth academy.
The stated aim is to keep the side, promoted to Ligue 2 this season and currently fifth, at this level and, in time, climb back to Ligue 1 .

The new owners plan to buy the Pincenardière training center from the city and carry out upgrades, and they hope to relaunch the academy from the start of next season.
