(1) Ruud van Nistelrooy – Manchester United (2000)
When Sir Alex Ferguson identified Van Nistelrooy as Manchester United’s next great striker, a deal worth £18.5m was agreed with PSV. However, things went off when the Dutchman failed his medical due to knee ligament damage. The transfer was called off, and Van Nistelrooy was left devastated. United returned a year later, signed him after recovery, he went on to score 150 goals in 219 games and a place among the club’s greatest strikers.
(2) Nabil Fekir – Liverpool (2018)
In summer 2018, Nabil Fekir was almost unveiled as a Liverpool player. A £53m fee was agreed with Lyon, the attacking midfielder completed media duties in Liverpool colours. The sad news was announced after Liverpool flagged the deal over the issue he had has with his knee following scans, he eventually joined Real Betis.
(3) Gabriel Milito – Real Madrid (2003)
Real Madrid fans were excited about the arrival of Argentine defender The news of Argentina defender Gabriel Milito joining Real Madrid sparked joy among the fans but the deal fell apart after medical tests suggested he had severe knee issues.Milito signed for Real Zaragoza instead, and years later joined Barcelona, where he lifted La Liga and the Champions League under Pep Guardiola.
(4) Loïc Rémy – Liverpool (2014)
Liverpool were close to sealing a deal with French striker Loïc Rémy from QPR in 2014, but his medical reportedly revealed heart complications. The move collapsed then Chelsea swooped in, signed him, and he went on to win the 2014/15 Premier League title triumph.
(5) Victor Valdés – Monaco (2014)
After a glorious career at Barcelona, goalkeeper Victor Valdés had agreed to join Monaco upon the expiry of his contract. But a serious knee injury forced him to undergo surgery, and when he failed his medical, Monaco walked away. Valdés eventually joined Manchester United but never returned to his peak.

Victor Osimhen – Club Brugge (2017): Illness prevented him from moving, but he went on to be a top player for Napoli.
