URC, Engen announce new partnership

The Vodacom URC has unveiled Engen as its official fuel partner in South Africa, in a new deal that aims to boost fan engagement and grow the game across the country.

The partnership will see Engen, part of the Vivo Energy Group, align with one of world rugby’s most competitive leagues – featuring 16 teams from South Africa, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Italy.

URC CEO Martin Anayi said the collaboration represents an exciting step for the competition in South Africa.

“Engen’s partnership with the United Rugby Championship represents an exciting moment for rugby in South Africa and beyond,” Anayi said. “South African teams have consistently demonstrated world-class skill, resilience, and a competitive edge that strengthens our league at every level.

“Paired with one of the most passionate fan bases in global rugby, this partnership gives us an incredible opportunity to elevate the matchday experience, inspire communities, and showcase the power of rugby to connect people.”

As part of the deal, Engen branding will be visible at South Africa-based URC matches, across digital platforms and community activations. The partnership will also focus on youth development, grassroots engagement and inclusivity.

Engen CEO George Roberts said the company is proud to be part of the URC journey.

“At Engen, we fuel ambitions and communities – and rugby has always been a sport that unites and uplifts,” Roberts said. “Partnering with the URC allows us to celebrate the passion and resilience that make rugby such a powerful force in South Africa and beyond. We’re proud to stand alongside the URC in supporting the growth of the game and inspiring fans across continents.”

The URC continues to build its footprint in South Africa through major commercial partnerships, with Engen’s involvement set to further strengthen the league’s local presence.
