Usimamane’s “Baby Tai” EP Tops Apple Music Charts As Rap Star Hints At “TAI LUNG” Release. South African hip-hop’s momentum has found a new leader in Usimamane. The Umlazi-born rapper has kicked off 2026 in commanding fashion, as his latest EP G-Wagon Music: Baby Tai races straight to number one on Apple Music South Africa’s All-Genres and Album charts.

In doing so, the project surged past major names such as Kelvin Momo, Olivia Dean, and Gunna, signalling just how loud Usimamane’s arrival continues to be. The chart-topping moment follows an already remarkable rise. In 2024, his debut album 20th: Days Before Maud rewrote local streaming history on Spotify, firmly placing the then-21-year-old among the most exciting voices in Mzansi hip-hop. Now, at just 22, Usimamane is proving that early success was no fluke.
G-Wagon Music: Baby Tai is a tightly packed six-track EP that runs just over 20 minutes, yet leaves a lasting impression. It begins with the emotionally charged “Tai Lung’s Pain” before shifting gears through hard-edged cuts such as “Nix,” “Racks,” “Done Done,” and “Like That.”
The project closes on a reflective note with “Umusa Wakho Outro.” With production contributions from YMP Cash and Mark Lourence, the EP balances grit and melody, earning praise for its focus and intensity. Fans online have described it as serious from start to finish, with “Racks” and “Like That” quickly emerging as early favourites.
Celebrating the milestone, Usimamane took to Instagram, sharing a screenshot of the Apple Music charts and a message filled with gratitude and intrigue. “Thank you for showing my newborn baby ‘baby tai’ love, TAI LUNG is Alive and Coming, see y’all again soon,” he wrote.

Not everyone has been convinced, as a handful of early listeners labelled the EP underwhelming. Still, the numbers tell a stronger story. With chart dominance and widespread fan support, Usimamane continues to bridge his township roots with mainstream appeal. From Umlazi to the top of national charts, his journey mirrors the hunger and confidence of South African hip-hop’s new generation. As Baby Tai continues its reign and the promise of Tai Lung looms, 2026 is already shaping up to be another defining year for Usimamane.
