Wales stars heading to England

Two of the biggest names in Welsh rugby will join Gloucester for the 2026-27 season.

Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake are crossing the border from Welsh regional club the Ospreys at a time of deep uncertainty for rugby in Wales.

Morgan, 25, has 24 Wales caps, along with two for the British & Irish Lions.

The flanker suffered a shoulder injury during the recent Autumn Nations Series, missing Tests against Japan, New Zealand and South Africa.

“I’m delighted to sign for Gloucester Rugby ahead of the 2026-27 season,” he said. “It’s a great club with brilliant supporters. I know a lot of players at Gloucester who speak highly of the environment and I’m excited for the future. I’m also looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Prem.”

Gloucester director of rugby George Skivington said: “He’s a genuinely world-class rugby player and has a big impact in every team he’s been a part of, and that’s a really exciting prospect.”

Hooker Lake, 26, co-captained Wales with Morgan at the 2023 World Cup and led the side during their tour of Japan in July.

“The Prem is probably the most competitive league in the world and I feel like I am at a good stage in my career to take the opportunity with both hands,” he said.

Skivington described Lake, who has 26 Wales caps, as a “gritty and abrasive player”.

“With Dewi and Jac coming in, we’ve significantly bolstered our pack, adding to the talent that’s already here, and we’re shaping up nicely for the start of the 2026-27 season,” he said.

Welsh domestic rugby is in a state of flux, with the number of professional clubs set to be reduced from four to three under plans announced in October.
