The Wallabies have strengthened their coaching set-up with the appointment of a former All Blacks assistant coach.
Scott McLeod will join Les Kiss’ coaching team as defence coach from 2026 on a three-year deal, returning to the Test arena after his previous stint with New Zealand.
He held the same role under both Steve Hansen and Ian Foster, playing a key part in the All Blacks’ defensive systems during that period.
As part of the reshuffle, current assistant Laurie Fisher will move into a consultancy role focused on improving alignment within Australia’s high-performance structures ahead of the 2027 World Cup on home soil.

McLeod, who was born in Brisbane, spent eight years in Japan as a player before moving into coaching, with spells at the Chiefs, Waikato and the Highlanders before stepping up to international rugby.
Most recently, he has been working in Japan with the Kubota Spears, alongside players such as Malcolm Marx, Bernard Foley and Shaun Stevenson.
He is set to link up with the Wallabies ahead of Kiss’ first match in charge against Japan on 8 August.
“I am very excited to return to international rugby, especially to join up with Les and the team to build on the foundations that have been put in place,” McLeod said in a Rugby Australia statement.
“There is a lot of excitement building within Rugby Australia and I am really committed to doing my part. I am looking forward to connecting with RA, the players and everyone who is invested in this team.”
