Wizkid and Tems joined Justin Bieber for a remarkable performance of the remix of ‘Essence’ during his headline stage at the 2026 Coachella festival.
Justin Bieber’s long-awaited Coachella headlining debut on Saturday night delivered one of the festival’s most talked-about moments in recent memory, and it came courtesy of two of Nigeria’s biggest music exports. Toward the end of a deeply personal set at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, Bieber was joined by Tems and Wizkid for a spine-tingling live reunion of “Essence,” the song that first brought all three artists together back in 2021.
Tems commanded the stage during Bieber’s headlining set, reminding the desert crowd why she ranks among today’s most compelling voices. What started as a surprise appearance became the night’s defining moment. Tems came out first to duet with Bieber on “I Think You’re Special,” before Wizkid joined to perform “Essence.”
Tems had already started working through the opening verse of “Essence” when Wizkid hit the stage, putting a grin on the singer’s face. The pair traded lyrics back and forth before Bieber emerged from the side-stage shadows to rumbling applause. The crowd erupted as the three artists, who helped turn the record into a slow-burning global phenomenon, shared the stage together for what felt like a full-circle moment five years in the making.
Bieber’s return follows a period of immense change for one of the world’s biggest pop acts over the past several years. He had cancelled tour dates over health issues, sold his publishing catalogue, became a father, and parted ways with longtime manager Scooter Braun. He came back with his first album in four years with Swag and its deluxe Swag II, earning a Grammy nomination for album of the year.
