Wounded Boks cleared for tour

Faf de Klerk and Damian Willemse are on track to be available to tour with the Springboks for the November Tests in the UK.

On the back of a narrow defeat to Argentina on Saturday, the Springboks received some positive news as Rassie Erasmus plans for a strong finish to the year in the Tests against Scotland, England and Wales in November.

De Klerk, who suffered a thigh injury in the second Test against Ireland in July, has not played a minute in the Rugby Championship.

However, according to Sunday newspaper Rapport, the two-time World Cup winner is progressing quicker than expected and is on track to be fit for the end-of-year tour.

Willemse will also be ready for the tour after recovering from the finger injury that needed surgery and has kept him out of all Test action this year. The 26-year-old is expected to make his return to the field in the DHL Stormers’ opening URC fixtures.

In a massive boost to the pack, RG Snyman and Jean Kleyn will be available to travel with the Boks, while Franco Mostert is hoping to recover from his leg injury, having undergone two operations since the second Test against Ireland.

Kleyn started in Munster’s season-opening win over Connacht, after recovering from his eye injury, while Snyman is expected to return from his foot injury and make his Leinster debut in the second or third round of the URC.

Erasmus will also be keeping an eye on Edwill van der Merwe’s progress, with the Lions speedster expected to make his way back to the field from his ankle injury before November.

On the other hand, the Springboks are set to be without Evan Roos (shoulder), Steven Kitshoff (neck) and Lood de Jager (shoulder).
