Zlatan calls out Nigerian government over worsening economic hardship

Nigerian rapper Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, better known by his stage name Zlatan, has voiced his frustration over the country’s growing economic hardship, criticizing the government for neglecting the struggles of its citizens.

Speaking during an interview with UK-based media personality Madame Joyce, the Zanku (Leg Work) hitmaker lamented that many Nigerians have become desensitized to suffering due to years of government inaction.

“We are used to it, suffering and smiling, that’s how it has always been, and the government isn’t doing anything about it,” Zlatan said, describing the situation as both painful and normalized.

The rapper made the remarks in response to a comment by British rapper Dave, who humorously pointed out the contrast between Nigerians spending extravagantly in clubs and the widespread poverty visible on the streets.

Zlatan acknowledged that inequality has become a defining feature of Nigerian life, with a small percentage of citizens living in luxury while millions struggle daily. However, he also noted that some individuals have become overly dependent on handouts, instead of seeking out ways to improve their situations.

He urged Nigerians to embrace hard work and resilience, stressing that personal responsibility must go hand-in-hand with the demand for better governance.

While expressing his disappointment at the government’s lack of decisive economic reforms and existing hardship, Zlatan maintained that the people’s collective effort and accountability from leaders remain key to rebuilding the nation’s stability and dignity.
