Johan Grobbelaar says the Vodacom Bulls are determined to go all the way in the URC after several final heartbreaks. LINDIZ VAN ZILLA reports.
The 28-year-old Springbok hooker is in line to make his 150th appearance for the Bulls when they run out against the Glasgow Warriors in the URC semi-final at Murrayfield on Saturday.
The Bulls reached three URC finals in the first four seasons and standing in the way of their latest assault on the trophy are Glasgow, who topped the log.
“It’s been a great few years with the Bulls,” said Grobbelaar, who made the move from the Western Cape to Pretoria in 2016.
“There have been ups and downs, but playing in URC finals and now having another opportunity to go all the way is special. Hopefully we can get the job done this time.
“It was a major move for me in 2016, but I’ve never looked back.
“Guys like Gerhard Steenekamp, Stedman Gans and Embrose Papier started around the same time as me, and we’ve come a long way together.”
GROBBIES: Bulls peaking at right time
Grobbelaar described it as a “privilege” to have had the core of the team together for so long, as the Bulls prepare to bid farewell to several stalwarts at the end of the season.
Springboks Ruan Nortjé (who made his 150th Bulls appearance last week) and Kurt-Lee Arendse are off to Japan, while the injured David Kriel will be heading to France.
“We will definitely miss those guys, but the guys stepping up know what is expected,” he said.
“We understand each other and the game we want to play. Our structures are in place.”
