Jay Jody and Manu WorldStar’s ‘The People Are Burning (Live)’ Declared A Roaring Success. The South African music scene roared to life last Friday as Jay Jody and Manu WorldStar delivered a triumphant live theatre spectacle titled THE PEOPLE ARE BURNING (LIVE) at the revered South African State Theatre in Pretoria.

Hosted inside the iconic Malombo Theatre on February 20, 2026, the showcase marked a defining moment in the duo’s collaborative journey, transforming their joint album into an immersive stage experience that fused introspective rap, Afro pop textures, and piercing storytelling.
The evening stood as a celebration of creative risk and artistic chemistry. Since the release of their collaborative project earlier this year, fans have connected deeply with its themes, and the live adaptation elevated that connection into something tangible and electric.
In a heartfelt reflection shared after the show, the artists admitted they were overwhelmed with emotion. At a loss for words, they offered a resounding thank you to everyone who played a part. They described the road to the performance as a rollercoaster filled with pressure and anticipation, yet ultimately rewarding once they stepped onto a stage filled with supporters.
This was not simply a concert. It was a carefully reimagined theatrical presentation of their music, enriched by live instrumentation and powerful guest appearances that stirred the audience. Jay Jody and Manu WorldStar made it clear that this is only the beginning, promising more experiences to come.
A standout moment came courtesy of hip hop heavyweight Blaklez, whose commanding masterclass performance added lyrical weight and commanding presence to the night. Equally unforgettable was the evocative poetry of Noxolo Desire, whose delivery reportedly gripped the room, each line landing with emotional precision.
The live band breathed fresh life into the project, layering keys, saxophone, drums, guitar, and textured arrangements that reshaped familiar tracks into dynamic stage anthems. Musicians including Agasi Nilotic, Sundae Beats, Chriso1, Leeroyy 28, and Zoskii 777 were applauded for their standout performances and tight musicianship.
On the visual front, stylists Hector and Re.dese crafted looks that matched the intensity of the night’s theme, ensuring the performers embodied the fiery aesthetic of the project. Behind the scenes, engineer Chris was praised for delivering pristine sound that allowed every lyric, melody, and instrumental nuance to resonate clearly across the theatre.
Special recognition was also extended to Manlikezefe and Spokenpriestess for their instrumental support in bringing the ambitious production to life. The duo emphasised that the vision could not have materialised without their dedication and belief in the concept.
The People Are Burning has been described as a love letter to South Africa, unpacking the dualities of modern life: ambition and exhaustion, celebration and survival, dreams rising within a concrete jungle reality. Friday’s live staging proved that the concept does not simply exist on record. It thrives on stage, igniting emotion and unity in real time.
With future instalments already hinted at, Jay Jody and Manu WorldStar are doing more than performing. They are building a cultural moment that feels urgent, reflective, and alive. The fire has been lit, and this movement is only gathering momentum.
