Hurricanes scrumhalf Cam Roigard has refused to apologise for his controversial actions in his side’s Super Rugby Pacific semi-final over the Blues.
The All Blacks No 9 came under fire after taking a quick tap penalty after appearing to be injured following a collision with Blues fullback Beauden Barrett in the opening minutes of Saturday’s clash in Wellington.
While players from both teams gathered around and officials assessed the incident, Roigard remained on the turf before suddenly springing to his feet, taking the tap penalty and launching a break deep into Blues territory.
The move caught the visitors completely off-guard and led to the Hurricanes scoring a try moments later.

The incident divided opinion, with some supporters accusing Roigard of feigning injury to gain an advantage.
The 25-year-old, however, insists there was nothing untoward about his actions.
“I didn’t think I was milking it, but everyone is having a bit of a crack online. It is what it is,” he said.
“Ruben Love was asking for the ball, but I got up and had a look and no one was there in the middle. I thought, ‘I may as well just go’.”
“To be fair, if I stayed down and didn’t take the quick tap, Beauden might have got a yellow card anyway. It’s not here nor there. But I don’t regret it. It is what it is. It’s all footy.”
The Hurricanes went on to beat the Blues 57-21 and will host the Chiefs in Saturday’s final.
