Werner Kok will continue his career in England after two seasons with Irish province Ulster.
The former Sharks and Blitzboks speedster has signed a one-year-deal with the Newcastle Red Bulls ahead of the 2026-2027 English Premiership season.
The 33-year-old joins the club following his departure from Ulster, handing Newcastle a proven finisher with extensive experience in both sevens and 15-man rugby.
Kok built a formidable reputation with the Blitzboks, winning the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year award and helping South Africa claim Commonwealth Games gold and Olympic bronze. He has also made his mark in the Vodacom URC, scoring 29 tries in 76 appearances for the Sharks and Ulster.

His arrival is another significant addition for a Newcastle side undergoing major changes ahead of the new campaign.
“I’m really excited to be joining the Newcastle Red Bulls and the Premiership,” said Kok.
“I know there have been a lot changes made but with that comes a fresh start, and I am really excited to be part of it.
“I hope to contribute in building a great team culture, bringing my energy and work rate, and I really just want to give my everything for the team.
“It’s a new town and a new adventure, and I really look forward to getting to know the people of Newcastle and the fans around the stadium.”

Incoming Newcastle head coach Dan McFarland believes Kok’s experience and playing style make him an ideal fit for the club’s plans.
“Werner is a proven try-scorer and highly experienced winger who will complement an already-exciting group of back-three players,” said McFarland.
“He is technically excellent around the contact area, a ruthless finisher and plays with the kind of high energy, physicality and optimism that we as a group want to develop.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Werner and his wife Zanyika to the Newcastle Red Bulls and working with him when pre-season gets underway next month.”
