Saffa set to star for Ireland at Junior World Champs

Former SA U18 flank Josh Neill will start for Ireland U20 against England U20 at the Junior World Championship in Tbilisi on Saturday.

Neill matriculated from Rondebosch Boys’ High last year and qualifies to represent Ireland through his grandparents.

At the time, Rondebosch director of rugby Clinton van Rensburg said Ireland had secured a gem, praising Neill’s leadership and explosiveness.

In February, South Africa lost another highly rated schoolboy to Ireland when Bishops pupil Rynard Gordon signed for Ulster. The versatile back also qualifies through his Irish grandparents.

The move prompted SA Rugby high-performance GM David Wessels to quip: “We must get the @IRFURugby a Loyalty Shopper Rewards card!”

Earlier this month, it was also confirmed that Scotland had snapped up promising Kingswood College twins Josh and James Mackenzie, who will join the Glasgow Warriors academy at the end of the year.
