Nota Dismisses Zoocci Coke Dope’s Impact: “Who the F* Is Zoocci?” Nota Baloyi has reignited conversations around status and relevance in South African hip-hop after aiming producer and rapper Zoocci Coke Dope during a recent episode of Music Pulse.
“Like who the f*** is Zoocci, dog? … We don’t even consider when we think about ourselves up there at the top. We don’t even think that there’s a person who is called Zoocci that exists,” Nota said during the discussion.
The outspoken music executive acknowledged that Zoocci has a strong following among younger listeners, but made it clear that he does not believe that popularity translates into standing among the industry’s established names.
Zoocci has built a reputation as one of the influential figures behind the sound of modern SA trap and hip-hop. His production credits include work with artists such as Nasty C, A-Reece and Blxckie, while his signature producer tag, “Zoocci Coke Dope! He’s the dealer,” has become instantly recognisable among fans.
The latest comments also revive an old tension between Nota and Zoocci. In 2021, Zoocci publicly criticised Nota following the latter’s commentary about South African rappers, accusing him of “getting lost in things you don’t know” and warning him to “play safe.” Nota responded with a personal remark aimed at Zoocci.
Beyond the controversy, Zoocci’s career includes multiple accolades, major production credits and projects such as Anxiety and Anxiety+. His work has earned recognition from both fans and artists, particularly within the newer generation of South African hip-hop.
