Les Kiss believes the Wallabies’ extended break could give them an edge when they face the Springboks in Perth later this month.
The new sheriff in charge however admits that his troops will need to improve significantly to challenge the world’s No 1-ranked side.
Kiss is yet to taste defeat as Wallabies head coach, with Australia currently on a five-Test unbeaten run that includes a historic series victory over Argentina. The Wallabies drew 28-28 with Los Pumas in Mendoza on Saturday, with Argentina surviving despite being reduced to 13 men in the closing stages.

That result secured the Wallabies a series win in Argentina for the first time and capped a successful tour for Kiss’ side. Now their attention turns to a far bigger challenge, with the Springboks awaiting at Optus Stadium on 27 September.
The Boks are currently 2-1 ahead of the All Blacks in Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Series, with the final Test of the series to come in Baltimore this weekend.
While the Boks still have one more Test to negotiate before turning their attention to Australia, Kiss believes his squad’s chance to return home and recharge could prove valuable.
“We’re certainly going to be doing what we can over the next two, three weeks to prepare well for the Springboks,” Kiss said.
“We know that we’re playing the number one nation in the world. We’re going to have to make sure we get some things better to be able to front up against the Springboks. It will be tough, but I’m pretty sure the boys will be up for the fight.”

Asked whether Australia’s extended rest could give them an edge, he replied: “Yeah, I think so.
“There’s been a lot of load on the boys, travel, training, all that sort of stuff that they’ve put on over the last two or three weeks.
“To get home and refresh, catch up with their families, I think is an ideal opportunity for us to make sure we can come into that Perth camp and put something on the table that people would expect of us and they’d expect of themselves.”
