Nasty C Puts ‘Strings and Bling’ At Number 1 As He Ranks His Own Albums. Nasty C has revealed how he ranks his own studio albums, and the rapper’s personal connection to each project appears to matter more than hits, numbers or critical reception.
During a conversation with Scoop Makhatini, the Durban-born rapper shared his top five projects in order, with Strings and Bling taking the top spot.
His personal ranking is:
- Strings and Bling (2018)
- I Love It Here (2023)
- Zulu Man With Some Power (2020)
- Free (2025)
- Bad Hair (2016)
“I put Strings and Bling at number one. I put… I Love It Here at number two. I put Zuma Man on some power at number three. Free at number four and Bad Head number five,” Nasty C said.
The rapper then made it clear that his list was not necessarily a reflection of which albums he considers the strongest sonically.
“Now bear in mind, this is because of, like, the emotional attachment that I have to this project. To me, it’s not purely on, like, the sound. Like, I’m proud of everything I’ve done,” he explained.
That distinction gives the ranking a more personal meaning. Rather than judging his catalogue based on popularity, accolades or fan favourites, Nasty C appears to be looking at the memories and experiences attached to each chapter of his career.
Strings and Bling, released in 2018, sits at the top of the list. The album remains one of the defining projects of his career and played a major role in cementing his position among South Africa’s leading hip-hop artists.
I Love It Here follows in second place. Released in 2023, the project explored more personal territory as Nasty C reflected on his life, growth and experiences.
Zulu Man With Some Power, his 2020 album, takes third place, while Free, released independently in 2025, lands at number four. His 2016 breakthrough project Bad Hair completes the ranking.
The order may spark plenty of debate among fans, particularly with Bad Hair placed at the bottom despite its importance in introducing Nasty C to a much wider audience.
Still, the rapper’s explanation makes it clear that the ranking was never meant to be a definitive assessment of his music. It was about the albums he feels most emotionally connected to.
For Nasty C, every project represents a different stage of his journey, and while his personal order may differ from that of his listeners, his conclusion remains simple: he is proud of everything he has created.
