Lordkez Reacts To Performing The National Anthem At The Currie Cup Final. Kimberley-born R&B singer Lordkez returned to familiar ground for a special homecoming on Saturday, delivering South Africa’s national anthem ahead of the Currie Cup final at Griqua Park.
The SAMA-winning artist described the performance as a moment filled with “great joy and pride,” made even more meaningful by the fact that it took place in the city where she grew up.
For Lordkez, stepping onto the same ground she once walked as a young girl with dreams of making her mark was an emotional full-circle moment.
“This was such a special and emotional moment for me, because this is the first time I get to sing the national anthem live on the ground I’ve walked on as a young girly with big dreams,” she shared.
The performance came as Kimberley prepared for a major day of rugby, with the Griquas facing the Pumas in the Currie Cup final. The home side went on to claim a 23-16 victory, securing back-to-back Currie Cup titles and giving the passionate home crowd another reason to celebrate.
Lordkez reflected on the reception she received from her hometown, describing the atmosphere of love and excitement as “an unreal feeling.”
Her pride in the Northern Cape was also clear as she ended her message with a simple rallying cry for the home team: “GO GRIQUAS.”
The singer also thanked the Bok Rugby team for allowing her to perform at the high-profile domestic rugby final.
Known for blending R&B and neo-soul with her own local influence, Lordkez continues to build a career that has taken her beyond Kimberley.
