Nasty C Marks 10 Years Of “Bad Hair” With One-Day Pop-Up Salon In Joburg. Nasty C is taking fans on a trip through his career history, one haircut at a time, as he marks 10 years of Bad Hair with a one-day pop-up salon in Johannesburg.
The South African rapper will bring his “Bad Hair Salon” to Legends Barber at Newtown Junction on Wednesday, September 23, where fans can recreate some of the hairstyles that have defined different chapters of his career. The pop-up will run from 12PM to 4PM, with only 50 cuts available.
Fans will be able to select their favourite Nasty C era from a special menu before getting a hairstyle inspired by that period. The looks span the rapper’s various transformations over the years, from the curly-top fade associated with his early rise to later braids, dreads and other styles that became part of his changing visual identity.
For Nasty C, whose real name is Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, the occasion connects directly to the project that helped establish him as one of South Africa’s most prominent young hip-hop acts. Released in 2016, Bad Hair arrived while the Durban-born rapper was still a teenager and became an important early chapter in his career.
A decade later, the Bad Hair title has taken on a new meaning as Nasty C revisits the different looks that have accompanied his music, albums and visual eras throughout his journey.
The pop-up is being hosted at Legends Barber, a Johannesburg barbershop closely associated with the local hip-hop and creative scene. The Newtown Junction location provides the setting for an event that combines Nasty C’s music history with one of the most recognisable elements of his public image.
Announcing the event on social media, Nasty C revealed that fans would have the opportunity to choose an era and recreate its signature look.
“10 YEARS OF BAD HAIR! Tomorrow, I’m opening the Bad Hair Salon at Legends Barber in Newtown Junction from 12PM to 4PM. We’re recreating some of the most iconic looks from every era of my career. Pick your favourite era from the menu and get the look. One day only. 50 cuts,” he wrote.
With just 50 cuts available across the four-hour pop-up, the event is set to be a limited experience for fans looking to participate in the anniversary celebration.
