Nadia Nakai, Boity, Rouge, Moozlie and Sauwcy were among the familiar faces who took to Instagram on Wednesday, November 4, to share their voting experiences and encourage fellow South Africans to exercise their democratic right.

With their freshly inked thumbs on display, the rappers turned their respective Election Day moments into a celebration of civic participation, each bringing a different personality to the occasion.

Nadia Nakai kept her message short and straight to the point. Sharing a picture of herself proudly showing off her inked thumb, the rapper encouraged her followers to get out and vote, revealing that the entire process had taken her just 40 minutes.

“Only took 40 minutes. Go Vote!” she wrote, making it clear that finding time to participate in the country’s democratic process did not have to be a complicated affair.

Boity Thulo also joined the Election Day conversation, sharing a picture from inside her Range Rover with her inked thumb resting on the steering wheel. Although the media personality did not accompany the post with a caption, the photograph offered a simple glimpse into her participation in the nationwide polls.

Rouge, meanwhile, proved that even feeling under the weather was not going to stop her from fulfilling her civic responsibility. Sharing a picture from inside a car, the rapper revealed that she and her companions were sick but had still made their way to the voting station.

“We are sick 🤢 😷 but we had to do the right thing,” she shared.

Moozlie brought her own touch of personality to the occasion. The rapper posted a picture showing off her inked fingers alongside a South African flag, celebrating the fact that she had completed her voting duties.

“Done! 🗳🇿🇦 @chefnonts,” she captioned the post, adding a cheerful touch to the growing collection of Election Day moments shared by local celebrities.

Sauwcy, on the other hand, offered a more humorous account of what voters were experiencing on the ground. Taking to Instagram with a sunny outdoor selfie, the rapper spoke about the long queues, the heat and some rather unexpected encounters while waiting to cast her vote.

Among her observations was seeing what she described as “the chubbiest person I’ve ever seen” making their way to vote. She also mentioned waiting nearly three hours in the heat and standing behind a woman who, according to her, “farted the whole way to the front.”

Despite the uncomfortable conditions, Sauwcy’s message was ultimately about showing up and doing one’s part.

“What’s your excuse?” she asked, challenging those who had yet to make their way to the polls.

The posts arrived as South Africans participated in the 2026 Local Government Elections, held on November 4 following an announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa. The elections allow registered voters to choose the municipal representatives responsible for decisions affecting their local communities, including essential services and municipal development.

Unlike national elections, local government polls place particular emphasis on the leadership and administration of municipalities, making them an important part of how communities influence the issues affecting their everyday lives. Municipal councils serve five-year terms, with voters participating in the election of local representatives through ward and proportional representation systems.

With millions of registered voters expected to participate across the country, the Electoral Commission had encouraged South Africans to turn out and exercise their democratic rights.

For Nadia Nakai, Boity, Rouge, Moozlie and Sauwcy, however, the occasion also presented an opportunity to use their considerable social media influence to bring attention to the importance of voting.

Whether it took 40 minutes or nearly three hours, whether they were feeling under the weather or dealing with the heat, their posts carried a shared message: showing up matters.

And while these women are accustomed to making headlines through their music, fashion and entertainment careers, this time their inked thumbs did the talking.
