AC Milan have officially parted ways with Massimiliano Allegri after a turbulent season that ended in major disappointment for the Rossoneri.
The club confirmed the decision on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after their final Serie A fixture, bringing an abrupt end to Allegri’s second spell at San Siro. Milan’s failure to secure UEFA Champions League qualification is believed to have played a major role in the dismissal.
The expectations were high at the start of the campaign after significant investment in the squad, but inconsistent performances throughout the second half of the season left the seven-time European champions outside the top four. Supporters had also grown frustrated with the team’s defensive style and lack of attacking identity in recent months.
Allegri returned to Milan in 2025 hoping to restore the club to the summit of Italian football after years of instability. While there were flashes of promise during the early stages of the campaign, including impressive wins against title rivals, the Rossoneri struggled badly in key matches towards the end of the season.
However injuries to important players and poor away form further damaged their hopes of competing for silverware. The managerial change is expected to mark the beginning of a major rebuild at the club.
Reports in Italy suggest Milan are already assessing several candidates to replace Allegri, with younger and more attack-minded coaches reportedly preferred by the board. The club are also expected to reshape parts of the squad during the summer transfer window as they aim to return to both domestic and European contention next season.
