Big Xhosa Slams “Dead” Journalism Over Anti-Illegal Immigration Coverage. South African rapper Big Xhosa has sparked intense debate online after taking aim at what he describes as “dead” journalism, accusing media outlets of mishandling coverage tied to anti-illegal immigration sentiment.

In a strongly worded social media post, the artist claimed that both international and some local journalists have been spreading misinformation and failing to properly verify facts before publishing stories on the issue.

He said he had spent time researching the topic and was shocked by what he found.

“I’ve been reading deep into this anti-illegal immigrants movement,” he wrote. “What I picked up is the way journalists/newspapers/blogs from outside the country and even some inside the country have been falsely reporting things is insane. No fact-checking on stories, even when given facts, they still want to run with what they want to run with.”

Big Xhosa also warned readers, especially those outside South Africa, to approach online news with caution and verify information before accepting it as truth.

“I’ve learnt to never trust anything you read or see on papers,” he added. “Anyone outside the country reading things online, please fact-check them before you believe them. These papers can lie with no shame 😂. Journalism is dead!”

He ended his post with a blunt comparison, saying trusting media outlets is no different from trusting a romantic partner without question, calling it “a stupid thing to do.”

His comments come at a time when discussions around illegal immigration, border control, and their social impact are already highly charged both in South Africa and globally.

While some readers may see his remarks as extreme, others agree with his broader warning about misinformation and the importance of independent verification in the digital age. As news spreads faster than it can be checked, scepticism has become part of how many people now consume information.

Whether his comments fuel deeper criticism of journalism or simply add to the noise around an already sensitive topic, Big Xhosa has made his position unmistakably clear.
