New Zealand’s Black Ferns scored eight tries in a convincing win against the Springbok Women at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors underlined their experience and class, leading 24-10 at half-time before going on to claim a 52-20 victory.
With a stiff breeze at their backs, the Black Ferns struck early when flank Elinor Plum-King scored from a quick-tap penalty.
The Bok Women struggled to exit their half into the wind and were punished when the visitors worked the ball wide to fullback Braxton Sorensen-McGee, who raced clear to score. Flyhalf Hannah King converted to make it 12-0 after 10 minutes.
The hosts hit back four minutes later from a lineout maul, with hooker Lindelwa Gwala driven over for an unconverted try.
Growing in confidence, the Bok Women began to find their rhythm and put New Zealand’s scrum under pressure, while wing Mererangi Paul was yellow-carded for deliberately knocking down a South African pass.
Centre Aphiwe Ngwevu then crashed over following a quick tap by scrumhalf Unam Tose after the visitors had been penalised for pulling down a driving maul. The conversion went wide, but at 12-10 the hosts were firmly back in the game.

However, two late first-half tries for the Black Ferns – through prop Chryss Viliko and Sorensen-McGee, both from quick-tap penalties – stretched their lead to 24-10 at the break.

Lock Vainah Ubisi scored from another strong driving maul in the 49th minute, with New Zealand losing two players to the sin bin in quick succession.
But the Black Ferns responded when scrumhalf Maia Joseph stepped past a defender to score their fifth try, with Sorensen-McGee adding the extras.
Gaps began to open in the South African defence and Plum-King went over untouched for her second try.

The Bok Women then kept New Zealand scoreless for 22 minutes before replacement loose forward Amarante Sititi crashed over from close range, with lock Maama Mo’onia Vaipulu’s converted try taking the visitors past 50 points.
Ubisi scored a late consolation try for the hosts, going over for her second from a quick-tap penalty.
