Japan Rugby League One side Toshiba Brave Lupus have rejigged their coaching setup following a season where they failed to do the ambitious “three-peat”.
All Blacks legend Todd Blackadder has been replaced as head coach of the 2024 and 2025 champions and will now take up a management role within the team.
Blackadder, who took charge in 2019, guided Brave Lupus to those back-to-back titles. However, their bid for a third successive crown ended at the quarter-final stage this year after an injury-hit campaign.

Rather than parting ways with the former Crusaders coach, the club has moved him into a new role as high performance director and advisor.
Brave Lupus have promoted forwards coach Joshua Syms to head coach as part of a revamped coaching team.
“I would like to express my gratitude to president Masahiro Kunda and the entire staff for appointing me as head coach,” Syms said.
“I also wish to extend my sincere thanks and respect to my predecessor, Todd, for everything he built at this club, and I am proud to have the opportunity to build upon the foundation he established.
“We will carry on the traditions and culture established by the team while evolving them further in our quest to reclaim the championship.”
