Blitzboks book ticket to Paris

The Blitzboks beat Great Britain in the final of the Sevens Repechage on Sunday night to successfully seal a place in the Paris Olympics.

Tries from Quewin Nortje and Shilton van Wyk gave the unbeaten Springbok Sevens a 14-5 victory over Great Britain, as the South Africans booked their ticket to the 2024 Olympic Games.

A cup final played in slippery conditions saw the Blitzboks draw first blood after Nortje raced onto a cross-field kick from captain Selvyn Davids.

England hit back through captain Robbie Fergusson just before the break, but there was still time on the clock for a kick off, which Van Wyk latched onto as South Africa took a 12-point lead into half time.

The second half was a gritty affair, with the Blitzboks trying to put a final nail in the coffin, while Great Britain were forced onto the defensive as they tried to battle back into the match.

There would be no addition to the scoreboard, as the Springbok Sevens held out one last onslaught on their line in the final minute, winning a penalty from a five-metre to hoof the ball into touch and rubberstamp their ticket to the Olympics.
