Bok back high on Dobbo’s wishlist

Stormers Director of Rugby is hopeful of luring a prominent Springbok to Cape Town to help drive Project2029

Cheslin Kolbe remains a top target for the Stormers, with Dobson keen on bringing the Springbok superstar back to his hometown.

DOBBO: Cardiff’s desperation meant more

Dobson recently confirmed to Netwerk24 that Kolbe is firmly on his radar as part of the Stormers’ long-term “Project 2029”.

“Cheslin is someone we will definitely speak to,” Dobson said.

“He is one of us. We believe he can play a leadership role and continue through to 2029.”

Kolbe, 32, has been with Japanese club Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath since 2023 and has extended his contract through to the end of the 2026-2027 season.

The Kraaifontein-born speedster came through the Western Province system and represented WP and the Stormers between 2012 and 2017 before launching a glittering overseas career with Toulouse and Toulon.

According to Rapport, Kolbe remains one of Dobson’s priority targets as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for URC and Champions Cup honours over the next few seasons.

Dobson’s continued interest in Kolbe has reportedly intensified after the Stormers missed out on winger Dylan Maart.

Maart, who featured for the Stormers on loan from Griquas earlier this season, has opted to join the Bulls after the Currie Cup.
