Wallabies loose forward Carlo Tizzano is eager to challenge himself against “the best team in the world” when Australia and the Springboks clash in Perth on Sunday.
Tizzano made his Test debut against South Africa in Brisbane in August 2024 after injuries to Liam Wright and Fraser McReight opened the door.
The Boks won 30-12 on their last visit to Perth in 2024, when Tizzano was playing just his second Test, and the 26-year-old openside flanker is relishing another crack at the world champions on home turf.
“South Africa are the best team in the world, so what better way to test what we’ve been doing and everything we’ve been working on than doing it against the best?,” he said in the build-up to the one-off meeting at the Optus Stadium.

The Australians have won three and drawn one under new coach Les Kiss, and are riding a five-match unbeaten run that includes a 57-10 win over Italy in Perth in Joe Schmidt’s final match in charge.
“To get the win will be unreal,” Tizzano added. “I think we’ve grown a lot since we last played them in Perth.
“But it’s all about making sure we do all the things we’ve been talking about during the week. And if we do that, then we should get a good result.”

He hopes the Wallabies can produce something special to knock over the world champions, adding Australia’s improvement has been evident both on and off the field.
“It’s another big step up. I think they kind of build into this game, and our next couple of games have been really nice,” Tizzano said. “We’ve had some tough sides, and it’s only going to get tougher.
“So we’re obviously going to have to lift a lot, and there’s a lot to work on, but I feel like we’ve made some awesome strides as a team, not only on the field but off the field as well.
“I think everyone’s really proud of each other and how we’ve handled our business, and obviously there’s a lot more to work on as well, so that’s really exciting.”
