The Springboks can regain the world No 1 ranking at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
The back-to-back world champions relinquished top spot to the All Blacks after suffering a 33-16 defeat in the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series opener at Ellis Park.
But a Bok win by between one and 15 points in the second Test would earn them 1.18 ranking points, taking their tally to 93.39. New Zealand would lose the same amount and drop to 92.85.
A Bok win by 16 points or more would earn them 1.77 ranking points, with the All Blacks losing the same amount.
Should New Zealand win by between one and 15 points, their tally would rise by 0.82 to 94.85, while South Africa’s would drop by 0.82 to 91.39.
An All Blacks win by 16 points or more would increase their tally by 1.23 to 95.26, with the Boks’ dropping by 1.23 to 90.98.
