The Springboks’ lead over the All Blacks in the World Rugby rankings has been cut after Sunday’s 42-38 loss to the Wallabies in Perth.
The world champions lost 2.00 ranking points to drop to 93.09 – 1.94 points ahead of second-placed New Zealand.
It could have been worse for the Boks, who were on course to lose 3.00 ranking points when they trailed 42-17 in the second half at Optus Stadium.
The Wallabies gained 2.00 ranking points to move above Scotland into sixth place. A victory by 16 points or more would have also taken them above England into fifth.
