Bulls to charge for Dyantyi?

Aphiwe Dyantyi is reportedly on the verge of making a shock switch to the Vodacom Bulls, less than a year after signing for the Sharks.

According to a report by Sport24, talks between the Vodacom Bulls and Sharks over moving Dyantyi to Pretoria are close to completion.

Dyantyi signed a two-year contract with the Sharks after completing his four-year doping ban, but with John Plumtree overhauling his squad, it appears the winger will be granted an early exit.

The 29-year-old’s departure from Kings Parks will come as a surprise, given that he only made his much-heralded return to professional rugby for the Sharks last October and the franchise was seemingly willing to give him the time to find his feet again.

However, after a season that has yielded just seven starts and no tries for the 2018 World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year, Dyantyi could be set to part ways with the Sharks.

Dyantyi will reportedly arrive at the Bulls in time for the Currie Cup – if it goes ahead as scheduled – but will be joining a team that is stacked for numbers among their outside backs.

Even when World Cup winners Willie le Roux, Kurt-Lee Arendse and Canan Moodie are away on Springbok duty, the Bulls can still call on the services of veterans Sergeal Petersen and Devon Williams and young rockets Stravino Jacobs and Sebastian de Klerk, while utility backs David Kriel and Henry Immelman can also do a job out wide.

Dyantyi’s departure would also leave the Sharks a little light for numbers among their wingers, with Werner Kok also leaving Durban for a move to Ulster. Makazole Mapimpi, Eduan Keyter, Anthony Volmink and Yaw Penxe will be left as the specialist wings.

While Keyter has made a solid return from a long-term injury, Volmink and Penxe have combined for just two appearances this season.

Plumtree is, however, seemingly intent on making big changes to the Sharks, after a disappointing 14th-placed finish in the Vodacom URC, with Curwin Bosch’s move to France confirmed, while Sikhumbuzo Notshe is also reported to be on the verge of an exit.
