No 8 Cameron Hanekom says the Vodacom Bulls are focused on Friday night’s URC final against Leinster at Croke Park in Dublin – and not past failures.
The Bulls have reached the URC decider for the fourth time in five seasons but are still chasing their first title.
Their most recent disappointment came last year when they suffered a 32-7 defeat to Leinster at Croke Park, although Hanekom watched that match from home after tearing a hamstring in the semi-final win against the Sharks at Loftus.
The 24-year-old insists there is little value in dwelling on previous near misses.
“Every season has been different for us in a lot of different ways,” Hanekom told News24. “Focusing on what has happened and what could have happened is not going to get us into the position we need to be, especially mindset-wise.
“What’s happened in the past is not going to help us or anyone else; it’s about what we can do at this moment.”
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: SA’s next great forward
The powerful loose forward believes the Bulls must concentrate on reproducing the form that has taken them to another final.
“Looking back, what I would take out of it would be to try and play the same game,” he said. “Otherwise, we need to focus on what we can do because what’s happened in the past is not necessarily what is going to happen again.”

Hanekom added that the squad has extra motivation to deliver a title.
“Everyone is focused on giving it their absolute best because there are a lot of players leaving us after this season,” he said. “We owe it to them to give it our absolute best.”
