The Family Tree founder shared his thoughts on Monday after quoting a post that described music promotion as a “humiliation ritual.” Nyovest did not hold back in his response, questioning why artists would spend months working on music only to shy away from marketing it once it is ready for the world.

“This is how you new niggas think and then wonder why you ain’t popping,” Nyovest wrote. “For those who do get to pop, don’t last cause then they become even more arrogant. Nigga you spent months creating this only for you to act too cool to promote it? That makes no sense.”

His remarks highlight a recurring issue in the music business, where the effort required to create a project does not always translate into an equal commitment to promoting it. For Nyovest, making the music is only part of the job. Artists must also be willing to put themselves out there, engage with listeners and actively create awareness around their releases.

The rapper’s comments also drew attention to the relationship between visibility, attitude and longevity in the industry. While breaking through can be difficult, Nyovest suggested that artists who develop an inflated sense of importance after gaining recognition risk undermining their own progress.

Several commenters supported his position, pointing to his own approach to promoting music and mentioning artists such as Nasty C as examples of musicians who remain visible while pushing their work. Others echoed the sentiment that artists cannot consistently expect support from fans while neglecting the responsibility of getting their music heard.

Cassper‘s remarks come as social media continues to give musicians direct access to their audiences. With new releases competing for attention across streaming platforms and digital channels, simply putting out a song or album is rarely enough to guarantee that listeners will discover it.

For emerging musicians, the pressure to constantly create content and promote releases can be demanding. However, Nyovest’s argument is that marketing should not be treated as an embarrassing obligation separate from the creative process. It is part of building a career and connecting music with the people it was made for.

Having established himself as a prominent figure in South African hip-hop, Nyovest’s message to the next generation is straightforward: if you believe in the music enough to spend months creating it, you should be willing to put in the work to get people listening.
