Boland Cavaliers coach Hawies Fourie is sweating on the fitness of a key player ahead of Sunday’s Currie Cup clash against the Stormers XXIII in Wellington.
Fullback James Tedder lasted just seven minutes of Sunday’s 24-10 win against the Bulls XV in Wellington before limping off with a knee injury.
“We’ll only know more about the injury later,” Fourie said after the match. “The knee is a bit swollen at the moment, but it doesn’t look like he’s damaged any ligaments.”
Despite losing Tedder early in wet and muddy conditions, the Cavaliers adapted impressively, with Fourie praising the kicking games of scrumhalf Louis Schreuder, flyhalf Chris Smit, winger Jayden Bantom and replacement fullback Domenic Smit.
“I’m very pleased with how well our playmakers kicked,” Fourie said.
“Jayden had a brilliant game – both with his kicking and his aerial play. He made two clean breaks after receiving kicks, and kept us on the front foot with his counter-attacks.
“I still expect great things from him, and it also helps to have someone like him in the team who can kick with his left foot. It makes it difficult for opponents to cover all the gaps on the field.”
