Waratahs boss Michael Cheika has appointed two former Australia internationals as assistant coaches until 2028.
Stephen Hoiles and Wycliff Palu return to the Sydney-based outfit where both played in the 2014 Super Rugby final victory over the Crusaders.
They have signed two-year deals and are Cheika’s first coaching appointments since returning to the Waratahs.

Hoiles, who won 16 Test caps for Australia, joins after coaching the California Legion to the 2026 Major League Rugby final. He previously helped Randwick win the Shute Shield in 2023 and was part of the LA Giltinis’ MLR title-winning team in 2021.
Palu, capped 58 times by the Wallabies, spent the past year playing and coaching in Japan with Kurita Water Gush Akishima. He also coached the First Nations & Pasifika XV to victory over Tonga in the Kaume’a Ofi Trophy.
Both coaches will work with Cheika ahead of the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season.
