South African wing Duhan van der Merwe could make his first appearance of the season for Edinburgh against the Lions at Hive Stadium on Friday night.

Fellow Scotland international Marshall Sykes, who had major shoulder surgery in the off-season, is on track to return as well.

The Lions have arrived in Scotland after losing 31-14 at La Rochelle on debut in the Investec Champions Cup, and 57-15 to the Bulls in round three of the URC. Last season, the Pride beat Edinburgh 54-17 at Ellis Park.

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt previously worked with Andrews at the Sharks, and Sampson added: “I think Sean Everitt knows some of the staff there and he’s reached out to offer our support in any way we can.”
